Why are head units so gaudy?

Why do they need to be flashy? To sell? Some of hte flashiest head units I see are the crappiest ones. You know, lower end Sony Xlpod head units, Blaupunkt.

Alpine and Eclipse seem to be tasteful. My Clarion is a little flashy but not too bad. Why can't head units look like High end stereos? Less flashy yet more controls. Rockford Fosgate has some cool plain looking HU's but I don't know how they perform.

Because most car audio consumers are of the younger ages, which seems to attract them more than a plain cd player.

i work at a shop and we brought in one of those Dual units with the 2.5 inch screens and they sell like crazy but they sound like pure D SH!T, and its like watching tv on a cellphone its so small. WTF!! That is straight //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/bsflag.gif.21f42eccd34b7d1eb1608fb1b59b69c3.gif

x2. The companies manufacturing the decks arent stupid, they know who their target market is, and they cater to them.

Like 99% of all marketing/design it does indeed cater to the lowest common denominator. Which also happens to make up the bulk of the market. Translation: Most people have the IQ and attention span of a goldfish swimming in a bowl of drain-o.

Because of all the tacky @ss people out there that keep buying the gaudy pieces of shit //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/frown.gif.a3531fa0534503350665a1e957861287.gif

Right.. why does Kicker put rediculous wire "grilles" on their $900 SS Series components? Because their marketing demographics includes 14 yr olds. I swear audio companies must hire pre-pube kids to do asthetic design.
