well all i know is I'll feel like an *** if I re-hook up my bass to this new alternator and I get the same problem. I'm thinking that upgrading to a 150a alt wouldnt be a bad move or too expensive either.. Although it would mean I just wasted 225 on the replacement.

How do you feel about the 2nd battery? They seem like a decent addition to systems as well.

I would add a battery before I moved up to a bigger alt.

QUESTION:

The fact that I got almost no dimming - would that suggest that too much energy was NOT being drained from my alt and that it was just on the way out?

Also if I just lowered my gains to the sub should I be ultra-safe?

2 days drivin with my ipod on is killing me slowly..

If you weren't getting any dimming at all then that would indicate that you were not taxing your electrical system, lending credence to the likelyhood that your alt just went.

I have to disagree with this, provided the altenator is insufficent to start with. If it is insuffiecent than adding a second battery is only adding in another component to put more strain on the charging system. They are great if you run the stereo without the car on but for everyday driving this is not a good Idea. However if the charging system in question is sufficent than a second battery wont hurt a thing and does give you the added benifit of a greater reserve capacity.
