Who makes the best looking amps 2U

Old Orion HCCA's, PPI Art series (I liked the black ones especially with the circuit diagrams screened onto them that you could only see if the light was just right), PG MS and MPS amps, the all business look of the JL amps really appeals to me. I personally like an amp that is pretty basic looking. I don't want flashy, I want functionality, and usually if the amp if made to look really eye catching, the design and construction of the guts of the amp (you know, the part that matters) is left lacking.
A man after my own heart.

You must be an old schooler too.

HCCA's and MPS all the way. I like the US Amps as well as the OLD PPI.

Well, I was around car audio when PG put out their first amp, the MS-250. I remember the D series Soundstreams. The 2350DM PPI was really nice too. The shop next to my house had a matched set (internally matched by PPI) one in black and one in white in the display case forever. The Series VII Hifonics were the first of those I remember seeing. Hell, I remember car audio when none but a few knew who JL Audio was.

Yea I could say I was the first on my block to own the New JL 10W4 yes they no longer make the W4's. I dreamed of a brand new just released Phoenix Gold MPS2125 and would have killed for a pair of MPS2500 which I now have a few of. They were SOOO expensive back in the day of $10/ watt(true wattage).

Would you be willing to part with one of those 2500's //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif I have one that I got second-hand that I'm trying to find a new board for (I'm in touch with PG in the hopes that they have a bare board that I can transfer the components to). But you can never have too many. I'm also looking for another 2100HCCA.

I've had a 10W1 since they first came out. Still have it and it still works flawlessly. Not a scratch on the cone or chip in the paint. I remember the W5's and wanted one of the original 8W3s (they were part of the W5 line but the magnet wasn't as big and they were single coil IIRC so they got a smaller number). This was before the W4s were around even.

I didn't have any money back at that time, and now that I do I am trying to acquire some of the amps I remeber because they just don't make them like that anymore. Sounds cliche but it is so true. Real power was expensive cause solid amps were made in the USA by real technicians rather than designed here and assembled overseas by somone who hasn't a clue what he's putting together using the cheapest components available. The build quality was better and the good amps spared no expense on quality components making them that much more reliable. There's a reason that there are a bunch of the old Rockford, Soundstream, PPI, Orion and PG amps still plugging along perfectly in a lot of cars, including mine.

Well good luck on the PG parts. I have spoken with the Techs, the parts Dept, and Demaze(sp) himself about getting parts and such for the MS MPS amps. They are out of alot of parts and they do not make nor stock them any longer. I am keeping my MPS2500's for that reason.

Ya I am building a very nice Full Size Chevy and want to incorporate the HCCA 2100's on some newer subs. Back in the day I was very loyal to Kicker, Autotek (BTS Series and earlier), Orion, and PG. ALWAYS ran KICKER comps. They were the only subs to handle my 2100's and Autotek 7600's.

I am like you and could not afford crap back then being a teenager and working to pay for school. Bought some stuff I wanted later in life and sold for financial reasons. Now I am secure and trying to buy up all the last of the BEST. Your absolutely right when things were hand assembled and underated for comp reasons, things were good. I am having such a problem trying to find good subs to run now cause I have been out sooo long.

I am looking at the RE XXX, JLw7, and the Orion H2's. Gonna run 4 and atleast 12" in the bed. Thus the need for the 2100's. Any sub suggestions for an old newbie?

I am running my 2100 at 4 ohms right now to a XXX 12 in a ported box and I love it. If you have 4 2500's then they would be a great match for the XXX's. One on each. I want to get mine fixed to where I can rely on it for that exact purpose. I'll pull my HCCA's out and run the 2500 on the sub and a 2125 that I have on the front stage.
