Who is the most popular band ever?

My friend and I had an interesting discussion today, we were discussing the most popular band to ever hit the face of the earth. We named a few like, Metallica, The Beetles, Rolling Stones...then I got to thinking.

What about Rammstein? They're easily the biggest band in Europe and they're still huge here.

but who has the most followers? we could go by record sales...but that would be to easy.

I asked one of our German exchange students, and he was telling me that remmstein sells out european soccer stadiums (that seat like 150,000 + people) including the field itself everytime they play.
