Who is right?

I recently had an argument (not a bad one) with my installer. He knows a lot about car audio and has proven it over the years. I know very little about car audio and I have proven that just off my posts here

But I think I may have outsmarted him now. I just bought an amp online for my cousin (posted about this in another thread) but now he is saying that I bought the wrong amp.

My cousin has 2 Infinity Kappa 12.1's. They are 12" and handle 350Watts RMS and are made 4ohms. I ordered this This infinity amp to power them. He told me that was a bad choice... but I do not understand. he said that would not power them enough.

Is he right that the amp will not power those 2 subs or was I right? It says on the amp that it can put out 657 Watts RMS wired at 2ohms. The subs are made for 4ohms, but can't the subs still be wired to be 2ohm stable? Someone let me know.

Will this amp work or not?

Yes, two SVC 4 ohm subs can be wired to a 2 ohm load. That amp will be sufficient to get those subs moving nicely. Did he give a reason as to why he thinks that?
yeah, lol... and we kind of worked things out. He said he did not think it was a good amp to get. He originally told me it just would **** and would not do anything. He told me now that it would **** because the subs will max out the amp and it will cause overheating problems after a while of loud listening.

I wish he would have mentioned it before I posted this, but he suggested the 1211a model. But that is a very powerful and expensive amp.

Subs can not "max out" an amp. That makes no sense at all. Subs do not TAKE power from the amp, so they can not cause the amp to overheat if they require, or can handle, more power. If he sets the gain correctly, which I assume he will not from reading that, you will be good. I would let him install it, and then get yourself a DMM and set the gain yourself. Just to be safe. That amp is a very good amp, and should do well with those subs. Tell him hes an idiot.

sorry I think you misunderstood a little. The amp is powering my cousins subs and my cousin will have a professional place install it. And my friend did not mean the subs would drain power from the amp. He meant that the amp would constantly be trying to give out all of it's power (I guess the way my cousins uses the amp) and that if my cousins keeps the loudness up, then that will force the amp to work hard and constantly put out its max power. And he said that is why it could over heat.

You apparently misunderstood ME. I said that you need to make sure the gains are set properly. If they are, he can do as he wants with the volume, to a certain extent, and there will be no problem. READ MY POSTS

sorry man, maybe I did misunderstand. I did read the post clear but I read like 6 other posts too. But yeah, that is fine then. As long as the amp will be fine then I guess I am happy. And thanks for the advice/help. I appreciate it a lot man. I really do not know much myself.

No problem. Just a suggestion, but judging that installer by what you say, I would reccomend that you set the gain yourself. Get yourself a DMM, it will help you a lot in the long run. Set the gain so that there is 36.24V comming out of the amp's channel. No more, you could do less, but any more could cause clipping and damage to the amp and subs.
