Under Federal law guns are not "registered". They can look up the serial number and find out where it was first sold. They can go to the gun store where it was sold. The dealer has to keep the purchase record and NICS background check for 10 years. They can tell the cops who bought it. That person can sell it to any adult they want without records. It's just a piece of property after that. They can do the same thing with a computer they find next to the body. Except for a few locations this is how it is everywhere else in the country. I've seen guys trade shotguns at a firing range because they liked the way the other one fit better...so if the police find a gun next to a body in one of these states , youre telling me they have no way of tracing anything to anyone? what about the original purchaser? sounds nice , but that doesnt make sense.
