Which setup would you use?

I might be purchasing another amp for my system. Currently I have a Kenwood that does 850RMS @ 2 ohms. The new one will do 920RMS @ 2 ohms and 1016RMS @ 1 ohm.

So with those numbers which would you rather use.

a 06 12" L7 in a ported box

a 05 12" Type-R in a ported box

or 2 05 12" Type-Rs in a ported box

I was running the L7 for a while and it was loud off 850W, but it seemed that it should be louder. I recently switched to my Type-R and it seems alot louder than the L7 with the same amount of power. Would 2 Type-Rs be louder getting about 500RMS apiece than 1 getting 920RMS or the L7 getting 920RMS?

I have no experience with them personally but most users that do use Type Rs report that they want considerably more power than their 500w RMS rating would imply.

With those output numbers I'm going to assume you're buying a Kenwood eXcelon monoblock? Perhaps that KAC-X811d I've seen floating around recently?

At any rate - if you're going to do the Type R I'd go with a single one with the available power you're going to have.

Of the options listed, though, I think I'd go with the single L7 over all of them.
