Which radar detector?

Since Beltronics' buyout a couple of years ago the top-dog Escort and the top-dog Bel are the same unit internally //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

I went with the Bel as I got a better deal on it. Average retail on both units hovers in the area of $330 and I got mine for $300 factory-direct with an extended warranty. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

#2. When you get a K or KA band, even if you are out of town.....You slow the hell down.
Word. Ka FTL

You also get to know your area and know where the popular traps are. Then you learn the bands. Around here, regular patrol cars have Ka and some are K, but very few and there are no X bands to my knowledge.

I personally love the Beltronics models. They're also local, headquarters is about 15-20 minutes from me, and about 5 minutes from my work //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif.

Stop by there and get me a hardwire cord (the one without the SmartPlug on the end) for a Pro RX65 if you would please //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

Another happy Rx65pro owner here. In all the tests and reviews that I read before I bought it, it was pretty much tied with the Passport for range and detection, and when I picked it up, it was ~$40 cheaper on ebay.

The range actually took some getting used to, after upgrading from my early-90's vintage Uniden Stalker. A couple times I found myself yelling at it to shut up as I slapped the mute button cuz it'd been going off for 2 miles and there was no cop, only to go another mile down the road, and there he was. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif hehe

I did, however, seemingly get hosed by the automute function a couple weeks ago... I was coming through an area where there is an x-band signal that just saturates the whole area (no idea what the source is, but both my old and new detector always pick it up good and strong). The x-band signal had then auto-muted (down to 50% volume or whatever it is), and a short time later I got hit by laser from a cop sitting under the next bridge. When it alerted for the laser, it alerted at the automuted volume level, rather than going back to full volume for the new signal type. Luckily, I was not going excessively fast, but when I saw the cop, I was like "what the heck", looked up at the detector and saw that it was happily displaying "LASER" and alerting at the low volume level, which was barely audible over the stereo. *shrug*

Just get yourself some standard phone line and coupler from Radio Shack and make your own. Cig lighter-->Smart Plug--->coupler--->phone line--->detector. I ran mine under the dash and up the A piller for a high windshield mount...worked great. A standard 6' phone line was plenty for me.
