Based on the info given, 4 type-x 12"s. Now if you have the room for 4 12" sealed, you probably have the room for 2 12"s ported. In that case, I'd do that.

Eh, output wise 3 12"s would be louder, but I prefer a ported box sound better. You should tune lower with a Type-X imo.

Ported theoretically gains 3db, as does 2x cone area. So in theory, 1 ported = 2 sealed. However, if theory holds, any additional cone area beyond 2 subs should allow for a gain in output....but so many factors effect this

Gotcha, I was just wondering how ported spl compared to sealed. These are totally just made up figures. I don't plan on buying type x's though I hear they're dynamite subs.

I'd just go for the sealed since I like the sound better. But if you lack in money to pay for an alt, batteries, and an amp go ported.

I'm going 2 12"s ported. I was just trying to get an idea of how many "ported subs" = "sealed" in spl if that makes any sense.

Ported boxes have more output at lower frequencies vs. sealed boxes.
