which is best for being loud in comp's

With out knowing your exact setup, what org, and class you will be in there is no answer...

Here is a quick one that applies to all of them though.

Your Hifonics is going to hold you back. you also will want a large stack of wood as you will need to build...test....rebuild...test...and repeat a few hundred times.

I was just going to touch on that hifi amp.

I've never done competitions but from what i've heard you need subs with a stiff suspension. But if you're looking to get some nice lows, I don't think thats a good idea for competing. IIRC most people use higher tuned boxes to get good scores.

I hear Atomics are good for SPL comps, Maybe look at stuff that can take a lot of power subs with a 4 inch coil.

Once again i'm just going off of what i've heard from word of mouth, never competed myself just figured I should put in my few cents.

Don't listen to this. No offense but you can not generalize SPL up like that. Every application is different and requires different types of subs/power and so on...

Lol at saying get a 4" coil but recommended a atomic which even the apx is a 3" coil. For OP though its hard to say cause we have no idea what he's trying to do. Im tuned lower than what most would consider lower than normal. But I know guys who compete and are tubed low. All depends on what he wants to do.

I know you've already been got twice, but I thought I could add some perspective to their comments. Your "suspension must be stiff" comment was not true in any way but people HAVE found high motor force to be advantageous for spl. Usually high motor force is coupled with a stiff suspension to keep the high motor force in check. (reducing bottoming out).

The reason stiff suspensions alone is not the answer is because suspensions inherently put some mechanical resistance on the former. The stiffer the more resistance and thus it takes more work to move it. It also makes the fs of the sub go up. 4" coils add more surface area to the coil, so it can dissipate heat more effectively. That same surface area also allows the coil to have more interaction with the fixed magnet's field. It ALSO means that the former/coil has a higher moving mass, meaning that it takes more motor force to move it, and it also will lower fs. Also, unless the basket and suspension are made larger, the woofer will also have very little suspension to work with. So, from this you can see, it's not the suspension alone. There is a lot going on there and it's just a compromise. How much efficiency are we willing to sacrifice to make this woofer play low notes.

my set up is in my sig but i have two 15'' american bass xfl's and a hifonics hfi3000d big 3 upgrade with 0awg wires, kinetik in the back and saving up for a HO alt, with a custom box tuned to 36hz, pioneer 8300ub in the deck and will upgrade mids to 4 hifonics 8'' tritons
