Which HU?

Hey guys,

I am in the market for a new head unit.. I have looked at the Alpine CDA-9853, and the Pioneer/Pioneer Premier P80MP/P8MP

Here is a comparison from crutchfield... I am really torn on which one to go with...

Please help me!

I own the alpine 9853 and its a really good HU but the glide touch thing takes a little practice, dont really know much about the pioneer you have up there, but i know that this HU from Premier is as good or better than that alpine, just a little on the pricey side tho,

MSRP is $570 but a good local shop will sell it to you around 400-450

well, I was looking to purchase off of ebay. However, I don't know if that is a good idea or not, considering, if anything goes wrong, I won't have a warranty... Also, on ebay, the Pioneer is ~$40 higher than the 9853...

Well, it all depends what you are looking for as far as features because these decks are a bit different from each other.

The Alpine has time alignment......the P8 does NOT

The P8 has a 2 year warranty........9853 has 1 year

P8 has 6 volt outputs.......the 9853 has 2 volts

P8 has customizable screensavers........9853 does NOT

They're both i-pod ready

The 9853 lets you choose between XM or Sirius as the P8 is only XM ready.

So you see it all depends what you're looking for. One of these will fit your situation better than the other depending what your needs and wants are.

If you're not looking to spend that much money you could always look into a Premier DEH-P770 which is compatible with just about every compressed audio format, not just mp3 and wma. It has 4v outpus, compatible with sirius and xm, but the screen savers cannot be customized.

Man if you go on ebay you can get a premier 860mp shipped for less than $350 and thats brand new. And that 860 is better then both IMO.

I bought a p770mp off ebay and havent had a problem with it. If your using Amps then go with the pioneer your amps will thank you cause they wont have to run as hot. and Ive seen the 860 on ebay for $280 new

well, I origionally started out looking at the p770mp... I'm not really sure what turned me away from it... I may go back to the Alpine CDA-9830, which i sold not too long ago... I may have to look at the p770mp again...

Anyway, how do you like your 770?? It looks like a nice freakin deck.

I know that the satellite radio is a feature on these, but I honestly don't see my self every buying the tuner, or subscription to satellite radio... I don't listen to the radio enough period.. But, I think I am gonna go with the p770mp.. It's cheaper, and has all the features that I need it for...
