which h/u?

The bad? Eclipse isn't too renowned for their reliability in their head units as apparently, they employ lower-grade parts in their high-end HUs.
Care to explain further? 'apparently'?

The Pioneer 960 is right up there in terms of sound quality (24-bit Burr Brown DACs, 3 way x-over), but seems a little more durable. Not sure if you need the dual-display. If not, look to the DEH-P860
Have you not seen the documented quality failures of those units? Preouts, internal grounds, eating cd's, ribbon problems... to insist they are more durable than the other choices..

I wouldn't agree with that at all.

ok looks like have narrowed it down even more becuase I'm not to hot about the idea of refurished items so I'm thinking its between the eclipse cd8445 and cd8454 between those which one's I know the cd8454 has more tuning options and better looks but the cd8445 is brand new and is allitle cheaper and I heard it fixed some of problems that the cd8454 had

I would take the 860 over an Eclipse deck but I would NEVER take the 960/9600 over any Eclipse deck. The dual faced units were a blunder and now you see Pioneer not making anymore of those in the 2006 lineup. Finally they learned.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/rolleyes.gif.c1fef805e9d1464d377451cd5bc18bfb.gif

The reason I said this is not to badmouth Eclipse, but rather relay information from a certain individual (one who I'm actually not close with) who fixes head units, amps, etc. for a living (and surprisingly, a 6-figure salary too...go figure).

I sent a Sony CDX-C910 to him not too long ago and over the course of our phone conversation, I inquired about the Eclipse lineup because I was very impressed with their capabilities. He informed me that they use a transport mechanism in their higher end decks that's prone to failure, have turn-on noise issues, etc.

Honestly, I'm no head-unit fix-it guru so I can't speak for him 100%, but after hearing what he had to say, it really discouraged me from owning an Eclipse.

iv been to many eclipse workshops. and no they dont. sorry man.
Okay.

No Eclipse-run workshop/seminar is going to feature a segment about their mechanical problems.

Sorry man.

.
Its a fact that some that have used cd8443 have had a turn on/off pop. I used that deck as well and no such issue, rendering the possibility on perhaps amplifier/install related? Afterall not all amplifier imput stages can candle the high voltage/low impedance of these decks. I have yet to come across an issue like that with the 8454 or newer decks.

As far as the transport itself thats news to me in the 4+ yrs i've been affiliated with one of the larger volume selling distributors in the states.

ok so cd8454 or cd8445 which same price the 8454 has more tuning abilties and i like its display better but the cd8445 is brand new and the 8454 is used for a couple months

You would actually be quite surprised. When they have problems they do in fact introduce them at the seminars to make thier dealers aware.

Sorry right back at ya. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif
