Which amp to go with 12" RE SX?

Was looking at getting a Hifonics Brutus amp, I was told a 1 channel class d mono amp, but how many watts? The sub is rated at 1000w rms, do I want a 1000w amp? Or a bit higher amp and have the gain down some? I am new to pairing up amps, and is my first time putting a system together my self. The 1 channel amp is the one I want right?

i would go with 1200 -1500 rms. Its always good to have a little head room. And that hifonics will never put out 1000 clean watts.

If your budget allows it, always go bigger than necessary. If you can afford to get an amp that does 2,000RMS, go for it. That way, if you decide to get another subwoofer, you will have the power to run it. If you go with one sub to start, you will have plenty of power, and can set your gains accordingly.

The BXi series actually does very close to rated RMS. I had a BXi1608D, and it did 1,550 RMS on a almost-stock electrical (Big 3 and Optima YT).
