I would go with 4gigs of ram if you can. That way you can take advantage of 64bit OS capabilities.
On the video card front, my Dell Vostro 1500 came with a 256mb Nvidia GeForce 8600M GT. Came with 3 gigs of ram too. Not too bad, but it's not going to be running Crysis anytime soon.
However, if you get a Dell, I HIGHLY suggest paying extra for the extended warranty. I fried 3 or 4 motherboards in my Inspiron 6000, and I'm afraid another might be on it's way out. I don't run the comp hard at all, Dell just seems to use cheap mobos.
