where do you take broken amps?

so, i don't know a think about amps, or how to look for something thats wrong with it...

...a friend's friend gave me an autotek (XS-1600X) it's 900w @ 2ohm and 1500w @ 1ohm...so i'd like to get it running...i havn't tried it out for myself yet, but was told that it plays but cuts out every now and then for a little...

any ideas? where should i take or send this? how much would you guess it would cost to fix?

or they could have had it wired up wrong and it was going into protection mode. has happened to me a few times.

well, if it does do the same thing, would you suggest taking it to the local car audio installer custom shop, or sending to.....?
