I m just curious.. So I can know where is the best place (cheapest) for me to ship my stuffs from next time..

I'm asking this question because I think I encountered a weird shit today..

2 or 3 days ago, I went to PakMail (shipping service) near my home which has FedEx, UPS, and DHL as their shippers..

I shipped a 69 pound box via DHL ground for onlu 39 bucks.. which means it is only .56 cents per pound.. I was pleased with the price..

And today, I went back there to ship a 2 pound package that contains a 4 gauge wiring.. I was expecting the cost to be like less than 5 bucks.. For instance I came up with $10.xx for 2 lbs package... which means it is like 5 bucks per pound.. I wasnt too happy, I d admit.. I decided to use my 15% off coupon and it went down to $9.xx(meant nothing pretty much)...

I m wondering why is it like that?? from 56 cents per lb to 5 bucks per lb!??

I m pretty sure that it is because of the weight.. the more weight, cheaper it is..??//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/waycrazy.gif.f4a380c3f94043939fd369defd9e6be2.gif

Unless that place just anal ***** me today..

I've also noticed that. But I just started using US Postal service. I went to packmail one day, and they were going to charge me $23. something and some odd change, and I went to the US postal service and shipped it with $100. insurance for 9. bucks

I always use Fedex. Just go to the fedex kinkos store and they fill all the crap out for you and you are good to go. I sent off a 20lb. turbocharger and is was only $16 to ship. They get you on the low weight tho, that ipod I shipped weighed less than a pound and it cost me about $9.

Yeah both times, I shipped via DHL Ground

It just sucks to be unpredictable on shipping you know.. And I think I m afraid to ship small things right now lol.. I mean inflated rate for low weight does not make any sense to me.. just weird ha..

Maybe they got some minimum price.. I gotta try different store next time.. But based on my experience USPS(united states postal service) cost me way too much.. Not sure if it is happening to you guys too..

For small packages, I always use USPS Priority, because it gets there fast (2-3 days, instead of a week for UPS Ground), and is usually cheaper than UPS Ground.

But if you're gonna do UPS, I do my own packaging, and print a label from ups.com, and just drop it off at a UPS store. That's the cheapest way to do UPS.

Oh, to the OP, UPS charges different rates for ground depending on distance. If you were to pay for shipping at ups.com and print a label, a 2 lb. package would cost between $6 and $9 depending on distance. If they did any packaging for you, then the price is fine.

i think that depending on where its going it costs more or less. i shipped a 4lb package the other day to virginia from ohio and ups tacked on a 5 dollar "rural" fee. im assuming he lives out in the middle of no where. 14 dollars total

now i am oging to ship a 10 lb package to hawaii. ups quoted 50 bucks, fed ex quoted 34, but postal service will ship it for 16.

ill probably start using the postal service more often.

For most items I ship USPS. It's usually cheaper or the same price, more convenient, and most times it's quicker aswell. I've never had a problem handling wise from any carrier (knocks on wood) so that has not really been a concern for me thus far.

If it's a larger, heavier or more expensive item where I want more detailed tracking I'll go w/ UPS.

USPS is good for smaller packages, that you can fit in those priority mail flat rate boxes. Anything larger or more expensive is generally better via ups, fedex or dhl. USPS is great for letters and small items, but their system is outdated for heavy shipping. Their tracking info is not updated, insurance is expensive, and they cost more (for heavier items). The other carriers generally offer updated, almost real-time tracking updates and cheaper insurance. USPS primarily goes by weight only, up to a certain point, while fedex uses dimensions as well as weight to calculate costs. If you are unsure about estimated shipping costs, you can always get a quote online.
