Where can i get an engine

Put a Chevy 502 crate motor in it! Er, well, nevermind, the deck height would require a cowl hood, and I'm pretty sure you'd need a different ******, axle swap, better brakes, tires, etc. It IS RWD, right? Otherwise, you'd never fit a 502 into a FWD setup. Just too **** big. Eh, nevermind, just stick to the six-banger!

just put one of those new 4cyl ecotec motors that chev has in those sunfires and add a turbo and u'll have 600hp, and that would one fast car without adding a big block that just stupid. Plus u'll have decent gas milage if just put that ecotec motor in it gets 35 miles to the gallon and a probably a little less if u add a turbo

Hah, if you think an ecotec 4cyl is going to produce 600hp with just a turbo, you're out of your mind. For one, the torque of that engine is so weak it's not funny. A Grand Am is a bit heavier than the sunfire/cavalier, and it would be slower yet. Also, the engine is built for gas milage. If you add a turbo, do you think it's going to get good gas milage still? No. You won't see 600hp with just the turbo, because the engine will grenade long before it gets there. 300hp if you're lucky, and that won't last long.

I wasn't serious about the big block, as I thought I made clear with my post in pointing out why it wouldn't work. But I guess you didn't quite understand me.

If you want a bigger, more powerful engine, get the V6, or look into squeezing an LS1 in there. I'm not 100% sure, but I think that it's possible to fit an LS1 in without any major work. Probably need a new transmission, of course, but it would definately give you the power you want.

I am almost at the point of getting a different used car and i still have to find a junkyard around here that carries that type of engine i mean it will be a pain in the royal a**. I might just get a 6 cylinder grand am engine and put it in there i don't want to do a whole lot of work retro fitting everything.

do a search for rebuilt engines or anything else like that. or hit up the junk yard and check at autobody shops. you could also always go to an auction and get a newer grand am (or grand prix--they have the same 3800 series II v-6) with low miles that has been totaled or cheap and have a local shop swap the engines.

well not paying for parts because you tok in the engine youll be lookin at strictky labor at probably 60-75$/hr depending on where your at probably 10-20 billed hours(estimate not sure exactly) thats like 600-1500$....just a guess. you could get a better idea by looking up a body shop in the phone book and giving them a call
