Where can I get a locked RAZR?

Nightmare is right. An unlocked phone can be used with any cellular carrier as long it operates on the same frequencie (sp). A locked phone is one that you would purchase from a carrier themselves so it can not be used with another carrier (usually) I have seen some carriers unlock phones as long as you have already used there service for the length of the contract.

Just so you know nissan it is highly unlikely that you will find an unlocked RAZR for the kind of price you are looking to pay. The reason they were on sale for 40 or 70 or whatever is because you Have to agree to a contract and at those prices I'd say its for 2 Years.

This is true. Having an unlocked phone also increases the value of the phone. Only GSM phones can be unlocked, and in the US, I'm pretty sure the only providers to have this type of service is cingular and t-mobile. The other type (CDMA) cannot be unlocked because the info is hardcoded into the phone and not in the SIM card. The US is the only country that has to be difficult and not follow the standard which is GSM worldwide.

I do believe that you could only get a phone at that price on a NEW plan anyways. I don't think you'd be able to get one at that price just adding to your plan because it will not be for 2 years, unless you change your entire plan.

how much???
idk, mine is on cingular I dont know if it is locked or unlocked. I sold some of my other phones to people with other services and they worked but I dont know how to tell if its locked or not. I have the silver razor with the wireless headset (tried once) with cables and stuff and usb charger as well and a case for the phone the construction worker type of case. Because I needed something that would hold up. This phone has been great to me. Last night the ringer seems to ring low right now. But the cingular has a huge repair shop about 1 hr from me so I am going to take it and have that fixed etc. They will check it out and repair replace anything needed on it so it will be in great shape. I am using this still, if you need to know why i will sell it and all.

Its been a great phone for me but i got laid off from both my jobs so if I can sell this and buy a cheaper phone and use some of the cash for bills I would do that.

That is how I got mine and I wish i didnt do it. My plan was almost up gf wanted to get added to my plan. So I had to add her and i bought the razor (when it first came out and cost alot more) had to do a 2 yr contract on her plan. Then at the end it turns out my phone had to become another 2 yr contract as well. And if I had known this I would of waited and gotten another new phone so that fukd me.

From what i am understanding he wants to add another line. Each phone number on an account has its own separate contract. so he should still be able to recieve the promotions.

I was unaware Cingular did it that way. CellularOne/Dobson which is one of the local carriers around here treats each phone number on the account as a seperate contract able to get seperate promotions.

Yes he wants to add another line but in order for him to get the razor at the price he spoke in the begining he would need to get it to become a 2 yr contract.

And the problem with that like I stated with mine my 2yr was up in 2months added another phone with 2yr for gf and from doing that they made my contract another 2yr and I didnt know about it. So now I cant cancel mine like I wanted to do and change to nextel. Cingular has been good for me but my work they give us nextels for company phones, and i like the walk talkie, and alot of people that i know have them so its kinda a way to save money like cingular at first i did it because alot of friends had that, so calls were free etc.

Here's a simple way to put it. If you are happy with the service, go for it. If you just want to add a line, but aren't looking to stay with the service, it isn't worth it. My family added 2 lines on our t-mobile account which was fine because we like the service. The only problem with it was that when we thought it was time to get an upgraded phone, we realized that our account had been changed to reflect a new plan starting at the date of our last added line.
