When will intel and amd be releasing quad core processors to the mainstream?

Here is what I see to give you an idea of how it works.
This is the desktop of the machine I am at. the last item on the right in the task bar is the remote desktop connection minimized.

When maximized, it is the desktop of my HTPC in the living room.

this the the "my Computer" link on the machine I am using. Drives Y and Z aren't on this machine. Y is the storage drive on my HTPC and Z is my wifes laptop. These are virtual drives on this machine since they are mapped through a basic workgroup network. I can read, write, or run from these drives as if they were on this machine.
the way you have it setup with the harddrives is exactly what i want. being able to control the desktops would just be a plus.

So basically i'll just need xp pro?

i'm sure i can get pirated versions easy... or something, i dont really want to front two hundred dollars per machine to have those capabilities.

Ding! Unless wanting to use over the internet, which isn't recomended for people not willing to keep an eye on their network. But for local network usage it is a vital tool.
Aye, VNC much better for that...some good applets too (but less secure)

Not gonna condone that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/nono.gif.eca61d170185779e0921b0faa9704973.gif You can get oem version for less than 2bills each. I paid for all my licenses and don't mind. Willing to shell out 2k on a laptop but not pay for OS isn't kosher to me, but to each their own. Have fun.

BTW, I think maping HDDs can be done in XP home, just not remote desktop.

Well its not that, its the fact that the laptops both came with different OS's on them, i upgraded them to XP home and i really dont feel like giving microsoft more money for an old OS that caused me plenty of headaches.

With the new laptop, i dont have a problem with paying the 30 bucks extra or however much to get XP pro. Although i'd really like to have media center functionality.

Media center 2k5 is built off of winXP pro so remote desktop is there. However with a new laptop they will try and shove vista ultimate down your throat, which has remote desktop too, but also a hole set of different problems. XPPro is worth the dough IMO.

I just see no benefit to having vista period. So perhaps i will find a way to get media center.
