what should you eye for to make sure the stuff you are looking at won't blow in like 3 days? for example: subwoofers/ amp?

Buy from someone reputable.

Sometimes you just can't tell, so putting your trust into someone reputable who will uphold his/her end is what's best.

^this.. but you never actually know with electronics.. hell things break brand new out of the box.. thats electronics for you..

x2^^ check the sub with a DMM (coils) make sure the coil isn't rubbing. Power up the amp to make sure it turns on...
