I have a cda-7892 alpine Hu. Today in the cold i dont know if that matters it was around 30 degress or colder outside. I turn it on play a cd and then i hit the >> to switch to a different song and it just turns off. Then now it does it alot and has did it all day. It will do it if you press any where on the faceplate. One time just the screen went out and the music would keep playing. Could the connection where the facplate attatches to the deck be dirty? should i try and clean it?

Try holding down the function button for a few seconds... You might have accidentally put it in blackout mode. I have a different model than you so I don't know if yours even has a blackout mode, but that's happened to me before.

Im Pretty sure its down to the connection where it connects to the deck. I see a tad bit of corrison i looked hard to day and i bet that is my problem. The corided part is the metal little bars on the deck. How should i go about doing this with out hurting anything?

Its a used hu so what do u expect

Hey I got the same problem here with my Alpine CDA-9847 - I posted a new thread before seeing this one. I'm pissed at the stupid thing because it'll randomly do things (not play, turn off when touched, etc). I haven't looked for corrosion yet, and I did get this used from eBay, so who knows.

I just tried calling Alpine customer support but they're closed (it's 2:40pm!!). This is a pain in the *** if there ever was one.

I had a problem like that and for about a week I couldnt figure out what the hell was wrong with it. It turned out that I left the remote control in the cup holder and when I would put shit in it it would push the buttons on the remote and make it do crazy things. Its just a thought but you might wanna check that out lol.

Yea that is what happens i hate it its a pain. I cleaned it with alchol and a swab and it worked a little bit better than it was doing earlier but still not like it should. Get what you pay for.

So instead of starting a new thread figured id just ask a question one so here we go.

My hu has 3 sets of rca's on the back. One says front this other one says read and the last one says sub-w. If im going to be running to r's off a directed 1100 do i need to get a Y rca cable so i can just plug it in to the sub-w outlet? or could i run my subs off the front and rear sets of rca's. And do you just guess on the amp on where they go untill you get sound and the hu untill you get sound from the subs?

if it gets real bad and you are thinking of junking the deck you might try some kind of conductive metal paint or something on the contacts...just be careful not to connect the pins to each other w/ the paint....I was going to say try copper paste but I thougt about it and that could smear and short the deck by connecting the contacts to each other...
