I bought a sony xplode 1200w amp used. I also bought a pair of punch 12 he2 from somewhere else used. The problem I am having is the amp does not seem to be pushing the subs. The guy I bought the amp from said I need a larger amp to push those subs. Is this correct? The amp is a xm2200gtx I believe.

the amp pushes some older mtx 12s I have laying around but not the punch 12s. I took the speakers and the amp back where I got them and traded them for what I have now. I had the same problem as I do now. I forgot what brand they were. Could it have something to do with the head unit? Its a dual brand it came in the car when I bought it.

I went today and got another head unit and hooked it up. I get some movement on one sub but it does not hit very hard at all. How do you check subs to see if they work or not? I hooked up a another amp and it does the same thing. Very small movement on the subs.

I would guess that if the Sony is dead on spec, you are giving less then half od the RMS to the subs...They wont hit hard with such low power.

You need 800-1000Watts RMS into 1 or 4 ohms.

If you are bridged, you will be very lucky to get the 500Watts rms.
