none of us did dbdrag... we were the only guys running R's.
Out of the 3 people running type R's at MECA finals, everyone placed top 3... and I won both SPL and reality.

If I would have done SM 1-2... I would have placed at least 6th, without changing anything other than the coils and running one battery under the hood.

Could I have been louder with 2 15's? yup...

The R's are proven woofers, live with it.

Seriously...I heard 2 of them in those ported boxes that Alpine sells along with the box, I really wasn't impressed, my IDMAX's were a lot better and my XXX's certainly are.

Prefab boxes are crap! I have heard Spkrmans setup and im not saying im going to trade in my MT for a Type R, But his Blazer sounds awsome. Very clear and very loud!

Kevo.... the IDMAX's and XXX's are better woofers no doubt, but realize they are 3x the cost of the Type R. That is the point that tommyk and spkrman and the rest of team Phat Hertz are trying to get across... No doubt there are better woofers out there for the lanes but they did the scores they did with ~$150 woofers.... $1 a db isnt bad

Alpine's ported boxes arent TCAB / spkrman boxes are they.... a flat response from 28-45 hz and pulling 150+'s all day.... nahhhhh type r's still **** tho

Until you hear a decent install with one, don't automatically assume they ****. I can say the XXX sucked because i heard it in a 1.5 cube box with a 2" port tuned to 56 hz. Does that mean the XXX sucks?

While I generally agree that for the daily joe who doesn't understand proper setup and doesn't have an adequate front stage, the lower the better.......in the right hands there's nothing wrong with crossing the sub high. It's all in the setup and tuning.

would have placed at least as well i was using the gates on the mid basses and had null noise until i had an input over load lol. that was when heavy duty vets did installs in other cars in my class top 2 cars were done by holly mogel and mike mineo and a few others im sure. to put it in prospective there were over 200 sq cars in just iasca (wasnt done with usac at all db drag was there though) not saying its chopped liver now but there are at least a couple hundred more formidable cars that could compete that dont anymore. when you ask long time vets about great sq cars i hardly see them mention the new cars they all mention things from the early to upper mid 90's as great cars. everyone goes with branding speakers as "better speakers make for a better system" imo speakers arent that much better and still what you dont see or what not gets talked about in sound systems very often is still what makes them "better" not just the speakers they used or amps.

as for a loud vehicle mark's doesnt sound bad at all (needs mids and highs) and he would definately have to turn the bass down to a lowwer level than im sure he would like lol. i give mark the kudoes for being that good over the equipment but he knows how to use it in that fashion. to me ones ability with re or alpine means more than the ability of the woofer because if you dont use it right or dont get the results you want its YOUR fault. too many people complain about perfectly fine equipment when at least 60% of the time the user installed it wrong (be it the box to power used) or uses it wrong. other 40% i would blame on poor research.

lol, the box was built by ALPINE specifically for the sub, ported and everything, they sell this box exclusively for the Type-R, and I wasn't impressed. I know it's not a TCAB box, but Alpine > TCAB

Thats a pretty blind statement.

Tell that to all the guys who have COMPLETELY different boxes from the ones that other companies (including RE) recommend for their subs.

There's no one set design/size that'll work great in every car.
