What's up with the unoriginality in Rap today?

I'd have to disagree, I have literally > 100 songs by him and I'd say at least 90% of them either expressed an emotion or had a purpose/told a story, and are certainly worth listening to over and over. The majority of the public don't understand what he's talking about and just think its funny because of the crazy shit he says, so it makes him seem like a clown in some of his songs though...
The main songs he does that don't have much of a purpose are when he raps with other people, and its usually a club song or somethin dumb but he still kills it

Oh and OP...turn of the radio and quit buying lil wayne CD's....there's still ALOT of very good rap out there you just have to know where to look
In Eminem's early career, it wasn't about the money, their was passion in his lyrics. He was angry and it was expressed in his songs. All of his new stuff has no passion and is garbage.

And FYI i don't listen to the radio that often it's not even hooked up in my car

I have no problem with sampling as long as it is done tastefully and the artist is recognized for adding to the work.

As for the quality of rap now. I actually blame women. I am kind of serious about this statement. I had an old 2Pac bootleg CD that had an interview that said do not rap for the guys. Rap for the women because the guys will buy whatever the women buy. You see that now with all the rap being generally made for the club. They are selling what the women want because that is what sells.

To some extent the public as a whole is not buying it. The only rapper to go platinum in 2008 was Lil Wayne. Not only are rap sales dropping within themselves, but as a share of the market rap has gone down significantly. One of the reasons I heard was because white kids are no longer buying rap because the novelty of the shock of gangsta rap is no longer there.

And the fact is not too many people care about substance in their music. They just want background noise. I showed a friend Pandora and he hated it because it played a bunch of stuff he never heard of before. I listent o Pandora so I can hear stuff I never heard of.

And like many others, this is why I mainly listen to metal and punk. There is still a shred of integrity in that music.

turn off your FM radio

---------------------------------------------------------------

This is a place where babies are hooked on drugs

Before they see the light of day

A land where doctors'll necessarily cut them out their mothers' stomachs

Just to make more pay

Their fathers run away

Consumed with the most ignorant shit you can think of

Cuz it's been dangled in front their faces like a carrot to an ***

But still they know better, they're just too scared to be outcasts

It ain't about past; let's talk present and future

**** presidents, what do you do with your power, your control?

Control yourself

Going dumb's not really a movement, you're really going dumb

Look at the shit they play on the radio

And got the nerve to wonder why rappers keep dying in the streets

Stop putting 2pac and Biggie on magazines until you understand the significance of why they died

Don't ya'll get it? Humans are bigger than they're supposed to be

Check yourself before you come out the house holdin' a piece,

Runnin' off at the mouth, sayin' trendy shit like “yes sir” and “ye ye”

Like it's the only thing you know

Yea, that shit is fun but don't let it be the only thing you know

Ultimately, it won't get you anywhere and trying to get out of here

Leave these bad lands behind, get in touch with my spirit, my body, and mind

Cuz I'm divine

And if no one ever told you you were, well you are

And that's it.

The whiniest punk bitch emo songs have more integrity than 90% of mainstream hip-hop.

At least whiny emo kids are conveying emotions for their bitch ex girlfriend. Not about fucking hos in the VIP room.

I love that CD. Just an //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif S.O.S. on that album beats.

i like trae's later day's. and life gose on. allso z-ro vs the world. and some other of huston's finest. SLAB

there's real hip hop out there, and sampling does not mean copying. DJ Premier and 9th Wonder are some producers that make great original tracks for artists that are tastefully sampled, same with JusBlaze. There's real artists out there too spitting great lyrics like Common, Talib Kweli Mos Def (when he's not acting), Little Brother, anybody from the Justic League, etc.
