u ever heard of mosfet?, it stands for metal oxide semiconductor field effect generator, just fyi..

these arent mosfets, theyre witchcraft containment units. They take electricity and thru the witchcraft contained within, convert it to music which is what speakers use to be a spiritual medium to reproduce sound. Pure scientifical explanation here //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

oh no double posting again

Yeah that's mine, and in the trunk of a charger it gets real hot, it was used got 2 amps for 35$ was working fine until I put bigger wattage subs in.

well that amps gone so now let just be for sure what subs and ohm load they are and find an amp that'll work for u

omg dude, when i worked at ultimate electronics, we had several pairs of those hooked up to krell amps, and holy god did they sound amazing when you were on axis with them, but really muffled when you werent. It ALWAYS tripped me out to be able to see thru the thing thats producing the sound that youre ears are hearing!! So weird!! We even had some of the ones that were over 6 feet tall with the built in sub on the bottom. I preferred the KEFs, but these were no slouches!!

Never had a chance to hear them in person but they were pretty big in size....several models at Magnolia Hi-Fi. Somehow they took electricity and formed it into sound....? You could prob explain it better than I.

the concept of an electrostatic speaker is pretty ingenious and it just goes to show what kind of overengineering was being done back in the 1930s and put into production for the masses in the 1950s. Leave it to a guy with ray ban framed prescription glasses, a crew cut and a pocket protector who didnt own a single pair of jeans or t-shirt (all dress clothes) to design a diaphragm that is constantly electrified and uses voltage variables from the audio signal to make the audio from the surface. The amount of voltage that is applied to the field is ridiculous tho, as in like Nikola Tesla voltage ridiculous LoL

If you have patience and a fairly steady hand..you can solder a new Fet in place and more than likely be up and running again..Board looks fine..Run it ona pair of 6.5s tweets,or 6x9s.It may be salvalgable

you do instill confidence and hope! But i cant disagree with you at all. I should send you some guts pics of my PPI PC2200 so you can maybe point such a simple solution out for me. Im gutted to think that its relegated to an expensive repair considering they sell for so cheap everywhere i see them or a paperweight like it currently is

Implying that the only bad one is the obviously burnt one. Implying that you won't need to replace all of them to match if you want the amp to work, and also implying that something else didn't get taken out that isn't visibly burnt.

Not saying there isn't an off chance it would work but the guys who repair amps professionally don't charge what they do because you can just replace obviously broken parts and call that a repair.

Also, OP, those are called the "smoke storage containers" and the amp will only work so long as you keep the smoke in them. Once you let the smoke out they don't work anymore.

i wonder if he blows some smoke back in then superglues the crack in the mosfet would fix the issue. Sacrificing the requisite chicken whilst doing so might help too
