hi

just wondering whats the difference , if any, between the 2 and which was the more sought after?

the older Rubicon's have the blue casings, but i never saw a Reference before though

also

how much were BRAND NEW Rubicon 604's when they were being sold?

thanks

There were some big differences between the two:

-circuit boards

-Reference 604 you had to switch between high current or High Power, Rubicon 604 switched itself

-The Reference was rated for 1/2 ohm (I would never do this but..) Rubicon was only 1ohm, also there was differences in ohm vs power output

-amp case design

-input sensitivity

-crossover points

-No Hawkins bass control on the Reference

There's more but that's all I can think of....

Some say the Reference had a warmer sound than the Rubicon, I've owned both can't fully agree to this. Now if this was a Rubicon vs D or A Class then it be a different ending. By ebay prices I have seen both to be pretty even as what they go for. But I would say most would choose Reference over Rubicon, I don't. Can't Remember what I paid for the Rubicon 604 but I still have the price for my NIB 1002, paid $599.00 (dealer price). So the 604 was close to this.
