Whats the difference between JL Slash and A/E Series Amps?

I'm trying to compare JL's 1000.1 Slash Series amp to their discontinnued A1800 Mono D, 1000 watt amp. The only difference I see so far is the 1000.1 Slash is capable of producing 1000 watts at 1, 2 or 3 ohms, while the A1800 is only capable of producing 1000watts at 2 ohms.

However, 1 A1800 would be fine to power 1 JL12W7. Is this correct?

Would you ever mix and match amplifier to subwoofer?

Like running (2) JL12W7's and a Kicker ZX1500.1 - which is 1500 watts at 2 ohms?

if you are set on wasting your money on jl subs just go all the way and buy JL everything
i completely disagree, there is no reason to match subwoofer/amplifier brands unless you're doing an install in which that would be beneficial (showcar) especially at the JL Slash series pricetag! //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/eek.gif.771b7a90cf45cabdc554ff1121c21c4a.gif

aside from that you'll save a lot of money buying individually.

and YES OP, you can mix amp/sub brands no problem.

What about personal preference / brand loyalty?

What about buying used equipment where exorbitant retail pricing becomes a complete non-issue? I mean - take my own gear for example. Diamond Audio certainly isn't known for having any retail pricepoints that would inspire the dropping of the bottom jaw, the bugging of both eyes, and the exclamation of something akin to "OMFG!! Whatta DEAL!"

But since the gear I bought was taken very good care of (thanks excelerater //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/thumbsup.gif.3287b36ca96645a13a43aff531f37f02.gif) for

Absolutely correct. All you need to match up is available power @ whatever resistance is that power is needed for the sub(s) you intend to run ~ not brand names...
