whats the differecne betweeen 12v and 14.4?

What's the difference? The voltage is different.

Your alternator ultimately determines the voltage that the system charges at - on most cars, it's a little higher than 14V. When you're stopped with the engine off, most lead acid batteries have an idle voltage of around 12-13V.

its a 98 ford taurus i went to 2 different alternator shops(only deal with alts and starters) and they both told me i have a 130 amp, im running a mrd-m1005 amp with 2 12" type-r's. im building my ported box today so i could really use the 14v so that they get powered at rms instead of almost half of rms, i might buy a red top today hopefully that will help a little.
