What's the best way to wire my sub to my amp?

I have a Rockford Fosgate P3D4-12, it says it's 500 watts RMS and 1000 watts max. I thought it was 600 RMS and 1200 peak? I guess I have an older version. It's a DVC 4 ohm sub. The amp I have is a Memphis PRD1000.1

The sub is in an enclosed box, and is going in my trunk. What would be the ideal set up for this sub and amp? Is this even a good amp for the sub? If I left anything out that needs to be known please ask, I am new to this.

There is your answer! Set your gains properly, there is a sticky here on it. Not sure about that amp, guessing it's 500 watts @ 2 ohms, too lazy to look it up.
