I am getting a term lab for testing but I thought I would try to organize an SPL tournament like bi weekly but what is the best way to let everyone compete?

Watts and other rules ,

number of subs or combination of subs,

Fused.

?

Either way when new people compete I can sell them a good box with a flared port and help them out.

Start off with just a few classes and see how many people show up. If you get a good competition base going then you can add different classes or more options in each class. I'd go with something like this

Power(4ohm power divided down from 1ohm) classes

0-750(0-3000 watts at 1ohm)

750+(3000 watts+ at 1ohm)

Vehicle Classes

Stock(no interior mods whatsoever, limit voltage to 14.7 or something and limit to one extra battery)

Modified(mod anything behind the b-pillar, unlimited voltage/batteries)

Extreme(anything goes, just keep subs/port behind b-pillar)

I think amp size is the fairest way to do it. When I go to cone area comps I see 600 watts going against 5000 watts and there isn't much fun in that.

With amp size you have the big dogs going against each other and the guys with wal-mart systems against each other.

A class 1 0-500, Class 2 501-1000, Class 3 1001 rms and up usually works out good for local comps. The majority of people are in class 2 usually.

I like that. but I also like the actual power vs the rated power way.

ex) a 2000 @ 1 with imp rise to ~3 will on do around 800 r so.

so that means instead of being up against the 2k + class you then b moved to the

500-1000w class. that's how thy did it at the last nspl show I went to

I love the way NSPL does it with the clamped power but it's way too complicated for most little events. Your average professional installer doesn't even know how to correctly clamp for power.
