What's the best way to get rust from the sub?

Yea I used calcium-Lime and rust remover that I picked up @ dollar general. Put some on a rag wiped the motor off then with a clean wet rag wiped it down again. Dried it off and sprayed some WD40 on a paper towel and went over it again to prevent it from getting rusty again.
Sounds like the simplest way.

If not I'll try some steel wool.

Thx a lot everyone. I will post pics of the results

Even some 3M Microfinishing compound might work
That's what I was referring to.

To the OP, they have different levels of polishes, just like waxing your car.

Heavy grit to get real heavy stuff off, then finer grit to polish it up and get rid of swirl marks and whatnot. I used two kinds when I cleaned up one of my 9500F motors. Worked real well.

Never used any of the stuff other people listed, so I can't comment.

I did a write up on it a while ago, pics are gone now though. at any rate- i took several grits of FINE sandpaper (between 800-2500 grit) and (starting with the roughest) sanded it down, over and over. then took a metal polish and polished it up:)

just did this one a few days ago (not done yet, only done the first 4 grits)
