whats so bad about mixing subs

I've heard its bad to mix subs but no one has told me why. I'd like to try making a big box mounting 2 10's, 2 12's, and 2 15's sealed seperatly and ported right for each sub. that should give a good bass through a wide range of frequency. what would be so wrong about this?

If you dont know why it would be very difficult to explain as it can get quite technical. Basically you dont want drivers of different sizes reproducing the same frequencies b/c it can cause cancellation and wreak all kinds of havoc on quality sonic reproductions.

Mixing sizes causes cancelation. I don't know the physics/technical reasons but I do know that it is a bad idea. You don't need to have different sizes to pick up multiple freq's. A properly setup single size will give you the full bass range with no trouble. Bass is only in the range of 20Hz-80Hz. Anything below 20 is not auable (sp) and above 80 is generally considered midbass. Pretty much any sub (even cheap crap ones) will play in this range. Mixing sub sizes is not a good idea, i'm sure with a very well designe box, different sizes might work, but it is not somthing that I would suggest trying.....
