What's my next move?

Hi all. Replacing my "Premium" sound system in my 1991 Mustang convertible...

I started with 6 new Infinity speakers, 2 ohm because was told they would work with the existing sound system...

Front Dash: Infinity Reference 3032CF 3.5" 2-way

Door Speakers: Infinity Reference 6032CF 6.5" 2-way

Rear SIde Panel: Infinity Kappa 682.9CF 6x8 2-way

Sounds better but not good enough.

I had an old Sony Head Unit in the garage that I always liked...Sony CDX-MP70 so I removed the Ford stereo & little amplifier...Used Metra products to hookup & by-pass the amp.

Sounds better but not good enough.

What next. I prolly want to install an amp & maybe a sub down the road. I just want to utilize my old head unit & the 6 speakers...If I have to ditch the 3.5's & I guess I can live with that.

The Sony CDX-MP70 is a 23w RMS/52w Peak with 5v pre-outs (Front, Rear, & Sub out RCA's)

What makes the most sense...The car is a noisy convertible. It is in the Garage for the winter & interior is sorta stripped for a basic Resto, so a good time to run wires.

Thanks!

let me add to this...with the Head Unit volume turned up...it overheats & shuts down. Has to be the (2) sets of Infinity 2ohm speakers on the same channel (remember I'm using the original speaker wire harness & connected the speakers just as the Ford Speakers were connected). The original Ford speakers were (2) high frequency speakers (dash) & (2) full range speakers in the doors wired in parallel as the front channel. Separate signal return wiring to each speaker was used.

Soooo, is there a 1ohm stable amp I can configure into this to keep all speakers in the mix? Is it possible to use a 6 channel amp & split the front RCA cable into 2 sets @ a 6 channel amp? I will now be replacing the puny speaker wire but if I install an amp in the trunk, will be obviously routing wire different. Help

deck is overloading for sure. its possible to split the front signal to run 4ch for the front stage. I would recommend going to the 6 ch amp and that will make everything happy so you dont have to find a 4ch thats 1 ohm stable. a sub, any sub will also round out the sound of the vehicle.

i'd run the dash speakers off the deck and get a 4 - 6 channel to run the rest of the speakers in the car ,that will leave 1-2 channels for a sub as well .i can suggest and sell you an amp that will work for your needs ,but i need a budget to work with .

Thanks, I'm gonna plan on just a pre-wire for a 6 channel amp, sizing the positive cable for a possible small sub as a second stage while the interior is fully accessible. 14 gauge speaker wire will run to the trunk also. Thanks again.
