whats a subsonic filter

ok, if the music doesn't go below 20 hx, then why do i need the ssf....

and if ported box is tuned to 30+ hz, and i ok?

because i want to switch amps...i have a rf bd1000.1, which has a ssf to a jbl bo1200.1, which doesn't...

i am switching because i want all amps to be the same, looks aeshtically better...

ok, if the music doesn't go below 20 hx
how do you know it will always stay above 20Hz? it's bad if you have subs in a ported box and it plays freq's TOO far below what you have it tuned to, so i'd use one just to be safe yo :p

Ok Tech Guru's we know you are out there. I'm about to go to a ported box with my JBL1200.1, can someone give me a crossover I could buy that would solve the subsonic filter problem? I've talked to some competitors and they say that the subsonic filter isn't a must and that it shouldn't hurt the speakers. I would like to be on the safe side though and not have to replace subs after every competition so recommend a crossover for me please.

/cracks knuckles

if by chance you found a X-over that went all the way down to 20Hz, then use it on high pass @ 20Hz //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif but i berlieve X-overs don't even come close to that low.....

thats why S.S.Filters are good //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif they are high passed @ a very low frequency range..

20Hz and under is inaudible, so no point in making your amp and subs work that hard, plus the fact of over-excursion.. when going ported, YES.. use a S.S.Filter...

going too far below what your box is tuned to would be bad, becuz you won't need to push extra power out of the tuning range y0 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif

any more help homes?

Ok, you make it sound as if there are no high pass crossovers I couldget that would work at say 20hz. Anyone else know of any? By the way more_spl I really like your signature.

well, why get an X-over that high passes @ 20Hz, when you can just get a S.SonicFilter that will do it for you, and prolly be adjustable if you wanted to raise it a bit..

About my sig, yes, i really love it also //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif i got it from a song by the band Dogwood.

http://chienworks.com/%7Ejjinc/dogwood/lyrics/selftitled/02.txt

it seems really short, but the actual song is 3 minutes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif YAY4Dog\/\/00D

i wouldn't get rid of that amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif it is gooooood. I'm not sure if you can buy SSF's separately, does anyone know? but if you can't find one, if you tuned your box lower, it may still be ok, im not expert on SSF's, so i hope one of the smarty pants guys on this board knows your COMPLETE answer.....

it would seem pointless to make a song that has inaudiable frequencies wouldnt? im not talking bass tests songs but what songs would play sumthing that u cant hear. i dont know much about all this but from what i am getting from it, the ssf sounds almost pointless. but like i said, i dont know much about all this. do they actually make songs that have inaudible frequencies?

I just called a few local dealers(two of them kicker dealers) they said that they dont always use a subsonic filter on ported L7's. Also said that they've never had trouble with L7's because they didn't use one. Just done play a 20hz sine wave through it, and when u compete play frequencies around the tuning point of the port. Just thought you L7 fans might like to know that. One of the kicker dealers was even recommended by KICKER as the best one in my area and they no subsonic filter wouldn't be a problem.

that's true... just as long as you MAKE SURE you don't play to low of freq's..

and the whole point of tuning your box is to play freq's around that range so it's loudest when u go to comps //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
