What'd be a sufficient power supply?

So my friend has a 96 Geo Metro LSI. He just bought some Ascendant Chaos 12's and is gonna run a PCA3500 to them. He wanted to know if a single yellowtop would be enough to power the amp, since he has a stock alternator. Why he's not asking himself, i dunno. But I figured I'd make it easy for him.

yeahhhh. i was gonna say that his stock alt is prolly 90 amps. But he wants to do what he can to avoid an alt upgrade, which i tried to tell him he would PROBABLY (99% sure)have to do lol.

he needs to do the BIG 3 wire upgrade, he needs 2 bats and that might be ok. we dont know the amerage output on the alternator, do we?
so youre thinking two yeloowtops and an alt upgrade? Any other feedback? You tend to give me good advice subzero //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif, and itprolly wont hurt to get a couple other responses/ideas.

actually I think it is a 60 amp alt.

It is pretty easy to change the alt to a Chevy 1 wire setup which would allow for a much higher output.

Excessive amperage usually has some good prices. Personally I would stay away from yellow tops they are prone to failing if the voltage on them drops too low, and for what you pay for you can get like twice as much out of a Deka 9a31 (which bad4health on here sells).

Yea, I was gonna say, I've heard a lot of reports of the yellowtop actually not being a very ideal car audio battery. But at the price of 2 good batteries that you're gonna need, he could just do an HO alt. He's likely gonna need an HO alt anyways. If he's trying to run something that big, and doesn't want to do a HO alt, he's probably in the wrong hobby.

on ebay-there are some places to get a high amp output altr, that fits right back in the stock location/Alter starts where i got mine, a 225 amp in stock location.Just had 1 wire to modify, but works fine.Yellow top batteries are deep cell and take longer to charge back up.I use 1 red top for my truck, and 1 red top for the stereo system/amps.Honestly for that small car,Id get rid of the power hungry amp and you could prob get enough funds to get 2 old school amps and use less amperage and keep it all the same. All we had back in the day/stock,and 12 volt supply amps/11.6 for those of us that couldnt afford the $$$alternators/ect.You might be able to get a 4/3/2 amplifier, that will be all you may need for that car,a JBL GTQ 400 will do excellent for whatever you need to.8 ga power supply and it can shell out some POWER than todays amps that are power hungry!!! my suggestion to you,

you can go to any junkyard and get a 140 amp GM alt for super cheap.

You can modify the factory bracket to work with the GM alternator.

if you do not have a welder and grinder then the bracket is for sale on ebay for around $20

I have the same motor in my Suzuki Tracker - getting a GM to work is super easy.
