What would you want in a carPC???

Hello All!

I'm wondering what people would want in a Automotive PC. Hardware, software, and other features that would make driving, or being stuck in traffic, more of a pleasure. Now keep in mind I've already noted onboard missile launcher systems, cloaking capability, and other absurdities, so please keep it real. The information you give is for the development of a new line of hobbyist-driven car audio/video/diagnostic/navigational/and any other cool and practical features that you can think of PC.

Thanks for all of your ideas,

Ryan Haslam

everything the Alpine H701 can do, plus an RTA program with a mic.
You can do that already with roadrunner, and then just install termlab with the RTA add-on. been there, done that //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif

Ive spent quite a bit on playing with carputer setups in my jeep, and I still like using a nice dvd/nav unit from Alpine or Pioneer. But that's just my opinion. Nothing's more solid to me than a turn-key solution that you can just buy without having to install shit.

have you checked out http://www.mp3car.com might be a good place to do some research if you haven't. I am currently looking at building one, however for me I like building PC's and like the ability to just swap out parts and/or upgrade with ease. I am looking for mp3 playback (aka big iPod with all file types supported, standard windows stuff) GPS, TV tuner, OBD II diagnostic reader, backup cam, movie playback, large amount of storage for mp3's, movies, and video recording, internet and wireless network capabilities (must post while drift.) I am planning on using a standard issue cd player for music tuning though, running the audio into the AUX port on my HU.

I like TruRTA better.
its hard fitting this in a din location //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Things I would like (software) Ipod capable in the front end. Hardware, A nice low profile case for my install (some of the cases available now are just too high). Someone could also come out with a less expensive double din touch screen.

SmaartLive > true > arta

Very easy to use.

Back to the OP:

Extensive active x-over capabilities and a very capable EQ with overlapping abilities. Auto EQ is nice, but not necessary since most of my eq'ing is done by ear after a point. T/A of course.

Other than that, just the basics of a carputer.

For me, a carputer should be practical in a lot of ways. Being able to tie ALL my music, movies, and pictures easily into the front end is nice. Plus being able to use gps when I need. I like being able to wireless connect to the internet to update weather apps, or whatever else that extensively relies on the internet. Also being able to have a graphical display while driving. That was one of my main reasons for getting one (call me dumb). I like being able to drive at night and have the screen dance to the music with milkdrop in winamp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
