What would be louder, 2 12" L7 or 2 15" L5, what would you choose?

Wow, i haven't check out this topic for awhile. Alot of opinions going on here, too late! I just got my 2 15" L5 in yesterday. Yup, it sucks, i wont install it llike in december. But anyways the amp i'm gonna use is either a DD1 12001.1 or 1300.1, put them in a vented box from speaker hole.com. 3.77cf, But anyways, where can i get a better box from them, everyone seem to have a bad experience with them?

ps. dont have time to build a box, also i'm not competing, there is no comp here in hawaii, probably car shows i would think, but one just started here i think, just a local car show thing, they have thing to enter, best car, performance, and there a sound system contest. But not entering, DAILY DRIVER!! Everyone thinks i'm competing here, going for the world record or something.

3.77 ft^3 vented isn't gonna be worth a crap for those 15's unless the L5's have a really big difference in box size compared to the L7's. I know my 12'' L7's are recommended in nothing less than a 3.5ft^3 box. Unless I'm mistaken and you were talking about giving each sub 3.77 ft^3???

i would go with the twelves if you use the fifteens you are limiting their capabilities if you feel you can go with that size of box i would get one for the twelves all in what the subs call for for inclosure space. twelves are a sure bet. bigger box more amp and you are pounding hard.

Here are the specs!!

3.77 cubic feet inside volume per woofer, 3/4" mdf, braced. comes with four gold terminal posts on opposite sides of slot vent. Slot is mounted in the center and is 6x14.5x11.5 and the box measures 40 long x 16 tall x 25 deep. Carpeted black. This design will work and sound good at around 35hz for just about any sub. It is made from old vega specs for spl. We have run L7's in it and they sound great with zero port noise. This box does not have a center divider, it is all one chamber and braced very, very solid, this all one chamber design will accually increase your over all spl and does NOT harm the woofers.

Please remember to specify if you want this box with a square or round hole in the notes section of your order

must be 3.77cf per woofer, it says "per woofer".... So it should be good... If not, dam oh well....

I was gonna get the 12's, but alot of people recommend getting the 15's....

Also, Hey, give me a break, i'm not going for a world record or something......or competing....."daily driving"!!! But i just want something out of it, normal stuff, NOT HUGE!!!

Its kool though, i understand! Dont want to start any fights!!

I hit a 150.0db in outlaw competition with my 2 12's in a sealed box. I'm working on a 3.5 ft^3 ported enclosure now. It'll be th eminimum per sub but should still be better than sealed. If you have enough room to go 3.77ft^3 per sub on those 15's you'll do pretty good. Remember though that you could put one of those 15's in like a 6ft^3 ported box though so you're slightly over half that size for each sub. I think you'll be happy though. It should romp if u power then correctly.

F150Matt - thats pretty god 150db, dam.... I'm hoping the box will fit in the back.. Getting kinda worried... I'm gonna use a DD1 1200.1 mostly likely, if i got extra cash a DD1 1300.1....

Ported is better right than sealed for Solos?

If you want it to hit harder, yes go ported! If you have a good ported box, sound quality will be good too. Remember my 150 was in outlaw competition where the mic can go anywhere. I'm hoping that with my ported box i can break 150's on the dash. The guy at the competition that held the mic said that a 150 in outlaw with my system would have been like 142-145ish on the dash. With a ported box though I think 150's should be an easy goal to accomplish. Since u have the 15's I personnally would power them with more than 1200 watts. I have 1200 watts on my L7's and I wish I had 1200 more. Look into running two class D amps, or one 1500+amp. Just a suggestion. Guy at local kicker dealer runs 3 15'' L7's and has a Kicker KX 1200.1 on each sub. Those amps were bench tested at just about 1500 watts per amp and he runs that power RMS to the subs all the time. He's a puddin though and won't show up for competition. I dont know why.

Oh yea, he has them in sealed box and claims that on the meter at their shop his system did like a 154 or 155 on the dash(legal SPL). Its very likely but I really wish he'd come to a comp and let everyone see it for themselves. I dont understand why he wanted to go with sealed boxes as he has the same truck as me but an extra cab. He has plenty of room. He could even wall out the extra cab and fit 3 6ft^3 boxes back there one for each sub. I seriously see upper 150's maybe low 160's if he ported them and ran 1500 watts rms to each sub. Some guys on here may have different opinions but those 3 15's dont mess around!

cool story! I wonder why he did sealed.... I'm gonna use a DD1 1200.1 for the L5's... But i have to look into december to install it, still have to save up for, the amp, box and alot of accessories.

ok well if money is an issue have u considered building the box yourself? There are specs on kickers site for the different box sizes and the cut out pieces etc. If those pre determined dimensions and everything wont fit you can call kicker up and they can help u out. I know a sheet of 3/4'' mdf is about 13$ here at home depot, and I'm sure those prefab boxes you're going to buy are probably at least 250 a piece. But it's up to you. Doing things yourself saves a lot of money, but requires more of your time. Depends on what you would rather spend, time or money. Personally I'd rather spend time and learn how to do things myself. I mean you could mess up like 20 times on that ported box and still just be right at what you woulda payed for the one prefab box. I seriously doubt that if you are even slightly skilled with woodworking that you would mess up that many times before you wised upand got it right. Good luck though and let me know how it turns out.

Yup, i got 2 L5 15's already in my closet, since last week. Now i just have to get my amp and a vented box. I just order $hit load of accessories couple nights ago from SD and some new rear speakers. But anyways, my goal is to beat my friends i think one of my friend has 3 12's, sealed i think. JL W3 not sure what series, but it pounds, its in a tacoma truck, dunno what amp his pushing it with, and my other friend has 1 18 W3, sealed, pretty good size box, but not huge, its a tacome thundra truck. He got one more 18 W3, but he can't fit it inside his truck with the otner one inside. He is pushing it with a MA audio amp, with the voltmeter, i didn't really hear it though. Do you think i could beat them?!?!

Oh ya heres some pictures i took of the L5...
