What would a "+12 Vdc source" be?

First of all, he does NOT need a constant source as it will stay on all the time..Second, you don't want it on the remote wire, most remotes are only rated at @ a half amp or less..Third, you don't even need an acc or ignition source, all you need is an illumination wire to turn the lights on the remote knob on whenever your headlights are on..So find your illumination wire, either on the head unit or at the dimmer switch, and connect it there..What type of car is it?
You're right, no needed constant source.

When you say "most remotes are only rated at @ a half amp or less", are you talking about the wire, the fuse, or ___? All I'm saying is he can splice into the wire that runs from its switched power source to the amp, You're talking like the amp's remote turn-on will somehow be feeding this remote knob: Not the case.

The HU will only supply the remote wire with around .5 amps, it has nothing to do with the wire or fuse. I'm just stating that you should never splice into your remote wire unless you have something to keep the voltage up to 12 volts. I know a few amps that if you have more than one amplifier hooked up to the remote wire they do not work properly unless you have a capacitor and a relay to keep it at a constant 12 volts or more.

Yes, I need to clarify, sorry..The HU's output on the remote wire is usually between 100-500 milliamps, I have even seen a problem daisy-chaining other amps off certain HU remote outputs---we have had to install relays on multi-amp installs in some cases.

IDK how much amperage the illumination draws on your bass knob setup, but if you are going to pull it from the remote lead I would at least install a mini-relay or transistor..But hooking it up to the car illumination or acc source is probably the best way...
