what tone?

well, im wondering what i should play to acheive the highest SPL possible, just so i can go get my setup measured on a mic. i got a tone generating program and burned a cd containing a range of tones from 20 - 50 hertz, and it seems like 30-35 is the loudest, but then i played some stupid techno stuff, and it seems way louder on the same volume, bass boost etc. whats up with that?

Play a sweep from 35-55 hz. You'll peak somewhere around 45 most likely...

like i said, ive tried several different frequencies and it seemed that the loudest frequencies were around 35 hertz. oh yea, my sig. says ported at 35 hertz but i havent done that yet, My subs are in a sealed box for the time being. but i cant figure out why i seem to have gotten a lot louder from a cd with actual songs on it. do you have any idea why this might be?

Well...the thing is, lower tones can sound louder to the ear, but the mic can say different...

At some comps you'll see vehicles doing 60 hz tones and it doesn't sound all that loud, but it meters higher than someone with a lower tone which sounded louder to the ear...

J/W but could it be that since you have more than one frequency goin at once, with the song, it would sound louder??? That'd make sense...

no no, i said that my signature says its tuned to 35 hertz, but i actually havent gotten around to biulding a ported box, so theyre sealed right now. but thanks for the advice, ill just record a sweep from about 30 - 60 and see what happens on the mic

Im gonna agree with snova and say play a sweep from 20-50 hz so you can find your peak. Playing a solid tone in a sealed box will only limit yourself to guessing which is loudest on the mic.
