What to get w/500 dollars?

Alright, well I'm going to be installing a new HU/subs in a friends Toyota Echo (ick I know). Anyways..she's got a 500$ budget to cover everything, what do you guys suggest? Just a H/U, Amp, Subs, Box, etc..

Well she knows absolutely nothing about car audio. I figured a lower end alpine H/U w/ 1 set of Pre-Outs for the sub, a 300 watt or so RMS amp, and a Shiva in a sealed 1.25 cubic foot box. That's 125$ for the sub, 125$ for a jbl 300.1 say..150$ for the headunit, I'll build her a box for like 10$, plus 40$ for wiring..totals out to 450$..what'dya think?

tell her not to waste her money if thats all that she has to spend.

"you get what you pay for" so keep that in mind when buying car audio. 99 out of 100 times it will save you.

Very good point.....I always seem to forgot the Shiva is dual 8 ohms.

It's been my experience that people who know nothing about car audio think Sony subs are absolutely amazing, I think the broad would wind up pretty happy with the setup listed above, switching the Shiva with a K or something of the like....

How much are the k 10" and what are the specs on them?
