What to expect from component speakers vs coaxial

Gonna be upgrading my coaxials rated at 75w to some components bc mine cant seem to handle the power i want to throw at it. I notice that most components are rated similarly, but will they be more efficient than coaxials? (more output for similar power) I'll be upgrading my sub to a tantric from jlw6 really soon and i need some speakers that will keep up with it. Theyll be powered off a ppi 900.4

For the time being until you change speakers, you should raise the high pass filter. Another option if you have a high pass filter on the head unit is to turn on both that high pass filter and the amplifier's HPF, if you haven't already done so. Unless you have damaged speakers by letting out the smoke, your power handling issue is likely because they're getting too much bass when you play the system loudly.

If you want more loudness without going to a less accurate(read as PA style mids and bullet tweeters) speaker the bass handling typically must go down. This isn't always true, but you will need to get a handle on that high pass filter situation. Components aren't more efficient than coaxials, but there are reasons why they might handle more power and sound better.

Thanks for the advice, I have the high pass on the HU set at 100hz, I'm not sure what it's set to on the amp, but I'll play with it a bit. If I turn the volume up the speakers will make a pop when a "punch" is coming from the music, like the sound from a kick drum. But smooth mids like those from a bass guitar with sound nice without issue. Will I be losing some bass guitar sound by setting the hp on the amp higher?

The pop is the speakers hitting their mechanical stops. It'll happen to any speaker under the right conditions - too much bass combined with too much power.

100 Hz hipass is very reasonable, but raising it will help. Then you get to the point where there's just not enough bass in the main speakers and you gotta rethink the system.

What speakers are you running?

I'm running rockford P1692 6x9. rated at 75w rms. Yeah, i cant imagine wanting to give up any more mids in my speakers

SO basically since i want more volume from my speakers, I'm just going to have to get some with a higher rating?

I accidentally omitted that it happens at high volume.

The RF's are currently on the PPI?

Seems pretty weak for them to be maxing out at 100hz, even though they're getting tons of power.

My Lanzar (opti) 6.5 component woofer responds well getting ~250w rms with the HPF at ~70.

Hopefully what you find is that the RF just isn't much of a speaker and a quality component woofer will respond better. But without an audition I don't think there's any way to know for sure what you're going to get.

Yup, the RFs are on the PPI.

Yeah i guess its going to be kind of a rolll of dice. But im defenitely going to pick up some quality components. But to be fair, the speakers have great sound, up until you want to get loud. Thanks man

I have always felt that components sound better than coaxials, that being said I have the rf t1 components and have never had them make a pop noise
their Power line is typically way better than their "Punch" line (what i have) from what i hear.
