My current setup is a JVC Deck (KD-SH99) 200W Max power and four Jensen (JS65) 6 1/2" 90W Max Speakers. I'm not really concerned about the qaulity of the speakers because I got them for free and for now they will be fine.

I'm currently looking to buy two 12" subwoofers and a amplifier. I'm not planning on paying more than $90 bucks per subwoofer so I'm looking for the best bang for the buck.

I previously owned a old 12" cerwin vega subwoofer in a custom ported box powered with just a 50 watt amp and I was plenty happy with that. But I just recently bought a new car, a 96 Ford Probe and now want to add a 2nd subwoofer to wake up all the old folks in my neighborhood when I drive by. //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/laugh.gif.48439b2acf2cfca21620f01e7f77d1e4.gif

I have been looking at a couple models, there is the Cerwin Vega VMX12 and the Vega 124. It seems as if the Vega 124 runs 400rms/800peak while the VMX12 300rms/800peak. I would assume the Vega 124 is the better choice but when I visit Cerwin-Vegas homepage I can't find that product listed anywhere. The 12" VMAX is listed on there main site so mabye the other is discontinued I'm assuming. Also, is it better to have SVC or DVC subs?

Last but not least, what amplifier should I purchase? I was happy with my 50 watt powering my 12". All my buddies were surprized when they heard it and then told them it was just a 50 watt amp. I know that it was way underpowered so this time around I plan on buying a much better amp but have no clue what to look for. Can someone recommend a decent amp that would be able to handle either of the two 12" subwoofers, I don't plan on spending more than $150 on my amp, better yet keep it around $100 if possible. I read that mono amps were better for low bass, is this a good option or?

Thanks for taking the time to read all this, I really appreciate it!

I am a die hard kicker fan and would buy two 12" CVR's. But I recently hear two THuner 5500's and they also sound good. The 5500's my friend bought at circuit city for 120 for the pair but they were 10" instead of 12's. For $100 I am not sure of any great amps but I know that boss and profile make some decent monos for a cheap price.

The amp depends on the voice coil configuration. If you have single 4 ohm drivers, then yes, its a bit easier to find a small mono amp to fit the bill. If the subs are single 8 ohm, then you can run almost any 2 channel amp, and bridge into a single(mono) channel if you wire the subs correctly and get a 4 ohm load, which is what a lot of common 2 channel amps can handle.

Or, if the subs are dual 4 ohm, thats easy as well. Any 2 channel amp will work, just look at the specs....If it puts out, say 75 watts per channel, look to soo if thats at 4 ohms, or 2 ohms. If you can afford an amp that puts out 2-300+ at 2ohms per channel, than that would work well wired correctly.....Hope that helps, you at least have a few options.....

I want to buy two Cerwin Vega 12" V-mAx woofers.

rms 300

max 800

•SVC models 4ohms nominal

•DVC models 4ohms nominal coil

I've been trying to read up on how things work but I'm still a little fuzzy. SVC is what I would want for this setup I believe?

The amp I was looking at (mono)

I just want to know if this amp will work correctly? It says 310 watts rms 1 x 4 ohms, thats what i want for powering both of these subwoofers right?

if so... could I rely on this brand? will it not overheat and die in a day if u know what I mean.

Thanks agian... sorry for being such a novice. trying to learn!!

the missing 100 watts of rms won't make that big of a difference will it? The subs will still pound pretty hard? I'm comming from using one 12" inch sub with a 50 watt amp to this setup. BIG improvement i believe right????

also, when you say I should configure the 2 12'inch svc subs into 2ohms, is there some tutorial? I don't understand what you mean to make them like that.

ONE last question //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif, if I were to mount these subs just in my trunk minus a box it wouldn't hurt them? I'm sure it wouldn't sound no where near there potentional. but I'm planning on building a custom box with my uncle, he has a garage he is building with all the stuff to build a nice box, but it won't be done for another 2 months so I'm wondering if I could just rig some mounting deviceup and stick them in the back of my trunk for now.

Thanks for your imput guys!
