Can I live?
I was at a friends house today and we were testing subs out in my car. He has a Treo SSI 12 d4 and I have a SSI15 d2. My sub is run by a Lanzar1800d, sub in a 3.5cuft@33hz box, and his was run buy Kicker Zx1000 in a 2.5cuft@33hz enclosure. In the same trunk( my car ) firing back, his is louder and I can't figure out why. My amp is rated @1200 watts, and his is rated @ 1000. Both subs are 750rms, so both are over rated power. Why in the hell is his setup louder than mine in the same car? Is my box chocking off the sound getting back into the cabin or is something else to blame? My box is 16in tall and his is 14in. Please help me figure this out

the kicker usually does more like 1200-1300 watts in reality //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I'd say the Kicker is putting out more power, and the smaller space is making the air compress more.

Bigger isn't always better //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/fyi.gif.9f1f679348da7204ce960cfc74bca8e0.gif

The small difference in power in question with the Kicker amp should not make that much of a difference. Being same model subs (if I read it correctly), the 15 should have almost tqwice the air displacement potential as the 12. My guess would be the enclosure choking off bass response in the cabin. It could also be port/sub placement and/or firing direction.

The 1800d and the kicker are so close in rms as audioholic stated that I have to agree that 100 watts or so wouldnt be that noticable. I initially thought about the sub and enclosure choking off the sound. I've had mine in the trunk in many different positions and in different enclosures. My first enclosure was 4cuft@34hz and was louder to the ear than this current one. It was a slot port as opposed to this aero port I have now. Could that be the difference? Current box is sub back/ports to the side, old box was port/sub back and much larger. I would think the larger enclosure would choke off even more air than the current one, but that seems to not be the case. Could it be the port placement? I'm so confused

Same sub, mine is just bigger and I can't quite remember but I think even in my old box his is still a tad bit louder. My trunk is large enough for the sub( 85 Fleetwood) but I may be wrong about my old box, it may have been louder than his. Not sure. I'll build another one soon
