In the manual for my car it says it require 93 octane, I can't even buy that here, so I use 91 I think...
if there was a gas station that sold a 60/40 blend of water and gas for a lower cost, i would probably use that.
it does improve performance if your engine requires it.So your telling me 110 octane does not improve performance? Cuz i could not disagree with that more. I did not read the article so flame away if I'm saying somthing stupid.
I paid $1.74 for 87, which is the only stuff i've ever used.to answer the question in the title:

luckily gas is down to 2.11 lately compared to about 2.37 a few weeks ago. again this is for the cheapest regular (which is 87 in cali i think, might be 89 tho i dont remember)
