What Octane Do You Use?

if your car doesn't require a higher octance gass, what octane do you use? i'm trying to see if it's true that an engine rated for regular gasoline will have no effect, maybe even less performance, when using a higher octane gass. correct me if i'm wrong, does higher octane gass actuatlly convert from a liquid to a vapor much slower than regular gass to prevent knocking due to a higher compression? if so, would this gass have effect on an engine designed to run on regular gass?

you may not even get the engine to run correctly or at all if the octane is way higher than recommended. And I believe the other way around if you added low octane to a high compression engine you would get detonation early in the power stroke of each cylinder, causing a serious loss in power

BUT i have added 91 to my 94 3.1L v6 and idle is a little bit higher but much smoother and i get better response through most of the powerband

it's a good thing my engine doesn't have a high compression, the highest octane in cali is 91. seems like other than cali 93 is the highest.

i ran 110 in my truck once. it screamed.

some guy built it up so i have no idea whats been done to it.

i run ~92 in my 4 runner and my old mustang and i did notice a difference.

but if your going from 87 to 91 you need to reset your your computer otherwise it will stumble and run rough for a few days. and i would not reccomend switching between the two on a regular basis find one and stick with it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Usually in the winter i will run a higher octane. It seems to help my car start and run a little better then in the summer. Engine is a 3.8L V6.

i dont have money for anything other than 87, i ran 89 for a week or so but i noticed a ticking sound so i stopped using it.

112 octane race fuel from ERC or 110 from 76 or VP (VP and 76 ****) in the shifter kart. hehe. in my mustang i run 92, it will survive on 89, but not on 87. the lower the octane the faster it burns, and vise-virsa.
