What manufacturing factors determine RMS?

Hi. So I am sitting here asking what factors determine RMS? What I mean is what components of the subwoofer build most affect power? The layers of the voicecoil? The diameter of the voiceciol? The size if the magnet? You see what I mean? Just curious?

Quality of parts

cooling of motor/coil

type of coil (round, flatwind, aluminum, copper)

diameter of coil

thickness of coil

I would imagine woofers with high excursions would cool better on some notes.

Ah, enclosure type can affect both thermal and mechanical power handling.

how much power a sub can handle is based on the coils ability to handle heat and the suspensions ability to handle excursion

no some subs will tear themselves apart before the coil burns up

the factor is the company who makes the subwoofer, the subwoofer can be truly be rated at 800watts but stamped by the company as 600 watt subwoofer a true 2k sub can be stamped as 1200 watts rms

Dude, it's all over the place. It really is. Does a manufacturer want to be dead on for all day music? Do the want to be dead on for SPL and tones? Does they want to underrate it to make it seem better than it is? Do they want to overrate it just to sell more units?

Which is probably part of the reason Jacob always recommends SAs to go into ported enclosures. I mean, he built the things with 'ported' in mind.
