What makes this amp so special?

I'll admit....when the Tru boner was fully erect I was about two button clicks away from purchasing a T4.65, T2.100 and H1 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/biggrin.gif.d71a5d36fcbab170f2364c9f2e3946cb.gif
i sold off one of my 4.100's, and my H1. i miss em, but hopefully they found better homes //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

still got the other 4.100, and its not going away unless someone makes me a really good offer... serial #1, sold to me by accident, wasnt supposed to go out to the public. it was designated to go to magazines and stores for testing/reviewing. and it bears fairchilds sig on the serial number plackard //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

I dont understand buying audio equipment just because its rare. Or for bragging rights. Its kind of like would you buy a computer because its rare? Would you buy a tv because its rare?

Pay for power output, pay for a well built product, pay for sound quality. But it seems like you can get a comparable product to that tru amp for less than half the price. Paying an extra 1000.00 or extra 1500.00 just makes no sense to me. Not for an amp. Even if you have 500 million dollars in the bank.

If you want something rare, get a classic car or some old baseball cards.

I am currently running a 4.65. I love it! Got it for a super deal on here actually because one of the channels was messed up. Sent it in to Dave Crigna and he fixed it and did the burr brown upgrade for about 110 bucks including shipping, really great service and the sound quality is fantastic.

I really do believe that an amp can give or take away from the music. Now in my own opinion, a truly GREAT amp does neither, it amplifies the music and adds nothing extra. I know its a debate and you can go one way or another on it but after listening to some very high end home audio amps, I am a believer. I listened to the DM78 from Halcro and I heard things in the music that I have never heard before. I mean it took cd's that I have had for years and just changed the music.

Wow, i just went on a tangent, sorry.

people buy stamps that are rare, people buy coins that are rare, people buy limited edition elvis collectors plates because they are rare...

there are collectors for everything. ya want something bad enough, you justify the price, not everyone is going to understand it. some people will understand the quality of the product, some people will understand the value of the product, some people will appreciate the product for both its value and its quality.

plus, if its rare, theres a good chance that it will hold its value, or it might even increase in value over time.

Sure, theres a good chance it will hold its value. I buy 300 dollar sunglasses that are probably worth about 75.00 because they are unique looking, good quality build, and not everyone has them. They are special to me. But in no way do i think that a similar or even better product can t be made for far less than half the price. Im sure you would agree that you can get many products which are as good if not better for much less money. Even if its not as rare.

Why buy a ferrari when many cars can get you from point a to point b.

If you've got the money to blow, fok it //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/tongue.gif.6130eb82179565f6db8d26d6001dcd24.gif. If you're a multi millionaire, whats 2 grand for an amp //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif. It's not even really that expensive in the grand scheme of things.

The Audison Thesis HV Venti retails for $16,000

Brax, Sonifi and Gensis routinely sell amplifiers for above $2500

And then there's that pair of home audio monoblocks that cost $350,000 (no, that's not a typo...there really are that many zeros in the price tag).

In home audio getting a Hi-Fi amp for $2500 would be considered a steal......

actually, they werent built in the US... there was a big controversy over that, and tru denied it hard. but in the end, they ended up discontinuing all their lines, and coming up with new ones.
they were building them overseas, and marketing them as built in the US.
yes I heard that story too...I think it was last year, but yes their rep took a hit behind that along with some other things the owner let out of his mouth that wasn`t too bright.

That is a debatable topic.
Just like when "all of their amps" were "made in the USA".....except the ones being made and shipped in from overseas.

Or when Abyss was their sister company....or, I mean, a parts supplier.....or, I mean, and cheap Asian knockoff of their products

Or when the product may become damaged by playing certain "ethnic" music.....

I'll stop there..... //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/smile.gif.1ebc41e1811405b213edfc4622c41e27.gif

Actually its only $7999. You may have been thinking of the Sinfoni Desiderio, but thats only $12,200 //content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/wink.gif.608e3ea05f1a9f98611af0861652f8fb.gif

didnt tru and elemental designs originally have some kind of a partnership? aka- a link to tru on the ed website (this was back in the old blue "e" cone days... forgive me if im wrong
Back in late '04/early '05 IIRC eD was an internet dealer for Tru (and I believe they even sold some "package deals" with the Tru amps).

Pretty sure this was before eD teamed up with Avionixx/Value Electronics.
