I own a 1995 ford escort lx sport - hatchback. I wanted to change the sound system because im going to be keeping this car for another year or so. First i was wondering if i can install component speakers without modification. I was looking for decent, above average speakers that will also give a decent amount of bass because I dont want to get subs for this car. Any recommendations, suggestions will be helpful. Thanks.

1995 FORD ESCORT

Front Speaker

Size: 5 1/4"

Depth: 2"

Rear Speaker

Size: 5 X 7"

Depth: 4 1/2"

Can i fit a 6x9 without doing any modifications?

Best buy says

Front Speaker

Size: 5 1/4"

Depth: 2"

Rear Speaker

Size: 5 X 7"

Depth: 4 1/2"

And Crutchfield says

Front speakers

Front Door : 6-3/4"

Rear speakers

Side Panel : 5x7"

Very confused here. Also, do some coaxil speakers produce decent bass without an amp?

do 5.25'' components up fronts, and make plates and do 5.25 coaxials in the back..diamond audios are nice, alpine, kicker just to name a few that are going to give you good sound without breaking the bank

if you're only gonna have the car for a year then screw it. save your money till you get a new car so you can blow it on a really nice sound system to put into a car that you will own for a long time. i used to have an escort and it is seriously the worst car for a system besides some of the toyotas and bmw's out there.

why would you want 5.25" coaxials over 5x7" coaxials? yes there are more choices available but you are cutting down your woofer area by a good amount. Just interested to know.

First figure out what the real front speaker size because there is some conflicting info it seems.

The actual front speaker size is a crappy Ford 3-hole 6 inch speaker that's tough to match and has limited depth. Spacers are out because anything that sticks out of the door panel will block the window crank. Some cheap 6 1/2" speakers will work, but you're mostly limited to 5 1/4" speakers and you'll still need to build a mounting bracket for a good fit.

I want a new sound system because i dont want to listen to the fm radio for the rest of the year and maybe even a couple months after that.//content.invisioncic.com/y282845/emoticons/uhoh.gif.c07307dd22ee7e63e22fc8e9c614d1fd.gif Im getting the car after my first year of college because i cant drive first year. For the headunit, i was thinking about getting the JVC KD-HDR1 and getting some 5 1/4" alpine type-s or type -r coaxiles in the front and 5x7 type-s or type-r coaxiles in the back. I was also interested in the pheonix gold rsd coaxiles speakers. Has anyone heard any good reviews/results by them? thanks

As a former 1995 Escort owner I can tell you a few things:

Don't waste money on rear speakers. They are mounted in plastic and even head unit power will make them rattle.

Front doors present several problems. Depth is your enemy here. Stock speakers are a 3 hole, 6.5" speaker specific to Mazda. Very few speakers will fit because of the depth issue. That includes most 5.25" components. If you build spacers the window crank becomes your enemy unless you're one of the lucky few who has a 95 Escort with power windows.

You can upgrade to a Spal power window kit fairly easy. The hardest part of doing this is the Molex connector in the door jamb. You can't just push wires through the rubber boot. You have to drill out the molex connector if you want to get any wires over 16-18g in there. Pull the rubber boot off where it meets the vehicle body and you'll see what I mean. Again, you can thank Mazda for this.
