What kind of speakers should i get??

I have a 1999 passat. The factory tweeters are still connected to the deck. I have 4 coaxal speakers as my door speakers powered by a 300 watt 4 channel eclipse amp. Then in the trunk I have a jl 12" w3 powered by a mtx amp. My deck is a Pioneer 5100ub I believe. The system really jams but recently one of my tweeters blew. I have been shopping around and some say just buy new tweeters then use a crossover from the coaxal speaker on each door so its powered by the amp. Others say just cut the tweeters out and upgrade my coaxals. Then other places say I could get components which would have a tweeter to replace my tweeters and a mid/low speaker to go in the door speaker location. I don't know what I should do. I'm looking for quality and loudness. The brands I have looked at are RE, JL and I have heard about infinity. Any ideas of what I should to get optimal sound?

Do the largest size components you can fit.

Need to know what kind of budget you have in mind before making specific recommendations though. With that said, the best thing to do is to go out and audition speakers and find a set that you personally like.

Have you heard of the brand RE? I heard some today and they were pretty nice. Would you replace all 4 or just the front? Some have told me that I should only replace the front then keep my coaxials in the back. Then disconnect the tweeters back there.

You could put components in the rear, but personally i would lose the back speakers all together. The general wisdom is that rear speakers are more trouble than their worth because of the cancellation/phasing issues and frequency response problems associated with a second source point. However some people still do it just because they prefer the sound/volume, or because they have people in the backseats of their car often. Rather than put components in the back and front, i would use that bigger budget to get one really good set up front.

If your installing these yourself, it might be a good idea to run the front components and disconnect the rears temporarily just to see how you like the sound.

Are you talking about RE's xxx series? If your thinking about spending that much some other popular sets to consider might be:

Saving money on rear speakers would also allow you to spend some money on properly deadening your doors if you havent yet done so (very important). Also you could bridge your amp and run all the power to the fronts.

JL is a good brand but theyre pretty pricey and with your budget there are probably better values to be had

But ultimately your opinion is all that matters, so like i said it'd be best to go listen to different sets and decide what you like the sound of most.

I loved my infinity speakers when they were being pushed by my HU but when I hooked them up to a JL a2150 45w x 2 they sounded like crap. Super tinny, not very accurate. It was weird like day and night. I moved on from infinity to other stuff. I like CDT but theres always better out there.

So I'm looking at the Infinity kappa 60.9cs component speakers and the Polk Audio db6501 6-1/2" Component System. Does anyone have any recommendations? Crutchfield said the polk would be better but idk I have never heard of polk
