This is what I will use ... thanks trumpet ... this option seems like the best all around way go from what I have at many other sites.I use 1" pan head coarse thread drywall screws with the holes pre-drilled with a 1/16" bit. I get them in bulk at a local building supplies store. Don't over tighten the screws.
They say course drywall holds the best .... I think 1" may be fine (between the sub part where the screw goes through, then the small rep-installed gasket, then the carpet, then the 3/4" MDF ... 1" should be the ticket!) to get through and not come out the other side. plus many say use the pan head so its flat on the sub which makes sense ... though I read a lot of guys use deck screws (normally gold or green) that are the same size and look at the pan head drywall screw but they have a stronger head to they won't snap when installed .... though if like you say don't over tighten them then I doubt this would happen ... but I may try and find the deck screws to be safe.
Thanks for the info here guys.
One thing I would like to know if what diameter drywall screw??? #8, #10 (just a guess) ???
